Painting a Cockatiel: what we pay attention to
Cockatiels are painted larger than life. At twice life size on a small canvas, the head — the slender crest, the yellow face, the orange cheek patch, the dark round eye — becomes a real portrait rather than a small bird in a big space. The soft grey plumage is painted in feather groups with a few individual feathers drawn in the crest, the wing tips and the long tail.
The mutations are painted as they are: normal greys with the yellow face and orange cheek; lutinos as warm white and yellow; pieds with their patches mapped at the sketch stage; pearls with the scalloped pattern painted as feather groups; whitefaces without the yellow and orange. Colour is matched from a daylight photo.
The expression of a cockatiel — the crest up in alarm or interest, down and relaxed, or flat back in irritation — is the likeness, and we paint whichever your photo shows. Two birds from separate photos can be arranged on one perch.

Cockatiel portrait FAQ
How do you paint such a small bird?
Larger than life. A cockatiel's head painted at twice life size on a small canvas becomes a real portrait; the cheek patch, the crest and the dark eye carry it.
Do you paint the different mutations?
Yes — lutinos as warm white and yellow with the orange cheek, pieds with their patches mapped, pearls with the scalloped pattern painted as feather groups, whitefaces without the yellow and orange.
Can you paint my two birds together?
Yes, from separate photos, arranged on one perch at a consistent scale.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
