Painting a Pomeranian: what we pay attention to
A Pomeranian is a bright fox face inside a halo of fur. We paint the face first — small, dark, sparkling eyes, a tiny black nose, erect ears — and then the coat around it as a soft mass with radiating strokes at the edge, so the ruff reads as fine, stand-off hair rather than a solid orange ball. Individual hairs are drawn only where they cross the background.
Colour runs wider than “orange”. Most orange Poms are cream at the ruff and chest and deepen to fox-red along the back; creams and whites are painted with warm and cool greys in the shadows; blacks with blue-black darks and side light; sables with banded tips at the edge of the mass. A daylight photo with side light is the single most useful thing you can send.
At near life size on a square canvas — the round outline suits it — the Pom becomes a serious little portrait. The plumed tail over the back completes the outline in a full-body composition. Dogs in a lion or teddy-bear trim are painted in that trim.

How do you paint the stand-off coat?
As a soft mass with radiating strokes at the edge, so the ruff reads as a halo of fine hair rather than a solid shape. Individual hairs are painted only where they cross the background.
Will an orange Pom look natural, not garish?
Yes. Orange coats run from cream at the ruff to a deep fox-red on the back, and we paint that range from a daylight photo rather than a single flat orange. The background is chosen to keep the coat warm without pushing it.
Can you paint my Pom in a lion cut or teddy-bear trim?
Yes. Send photos in the trim your dog wears; a shorter cut shows the fox face more directly and is painted with softer, shorter strokes.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
