Painting a Mixed Breed & Rescue Dogs: what we pay attention to
Most of the dogs we paint are not on a breed page, and it makes no difference to the painting. A mixed-breed dog is painted the way every dog is: the coat as it is — short strokes following the muscle for a smooth coat, layers for a long one, a dry-brush edge for wire, massed light and shadow for curls — and the face exactly as your photo has it.
Price is set by size, number of subjects and detail level, never by pedigree. The only thing a mix asks of us is more looking: a dog that is part Collie and part something else has a coat that changes texture across the body, and we paint those changes rather than average them. Several photos in different light help us see the true colour and the texture.
Rescue dogs make up a large share of memorial portraits, and the references are often a shelter photo plus a few phone snapshots. Send them all. We tell you which detail level they will support before you commit, and the digital proof is where you tell us whether we have caught the dog you knew.

You do not have a page for my dog's mix — can you still paint it?
Yes. The breed pages describe how we handle coats and features; your dog will have some of each. Send the photo and we paint the dog in front of us.
Can you paint a rescue dog from the shelter's photo?
If it is sharp enough, yes. Shelter photos are often low resolution; combined with a couple of your own, they usually work. We tell you honestly what the references support.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
