Painting a Cockapoo: what we pay attention to
Cockapoos are painted as teddy bears with eyes. The soft, wavy coat is massed as shapes of light and shadow — the round of the head, the floppy ears, the cheeks — and a few individual waves are drawn only at the edges where the coat meets the background. The one thing we insist on is seeing the eyes: a fringe that hides them in every photo hides them in the painting too, so a trimmed or brushed-back reference matters.
Colour is matched from a daylight photo. Apricots and creams are kept warm with cool greys in the shadows; reds and chocolates deep and warm; blacks painted as colour with side light showing the waves; partis have their patches drawn at the sketch stage. Many Cockapoos lighten with age, and we paint the dog as it is unless you ask for the earlier colour.
The face is round, the nose is small and dark, and the expression is friendly and slightly surprised. A straight-on head-and-shoulders study on a pale, cool ground — which lets a warm coat glow — is the composition most owners choose.

Cockapoo portrait FAQ
How do you paint a wavy, curly coat?
As masses of light and shadow with a few individual waves drawn at the edges — the outline of the ears, the fringe, the cheeks. Painting every curl makes the dog look like a rug; massing them makes it look soft.
My Cockapoo's eyes are hidden by the fringe in every photo — what can you do?
Send the clearest photo you have and, if possible, one taken after a trim. We need to see at least the shape and colour of the eyes; we can soften the fringe in the painting so they show.
Apricot coats fade — which colour will you paint?
The colour in your photo, taken in daylight. If your dog has lightened over time and you prefer the puppy colour, send both and tell us.
Do you paint from a phone photo?
Yes, as long as it is the original file rather than a screenshot or a photo of a photo. Sharp eyes and even light matter more than the camera. Send it and we will confirm whether it will work.
Can I order a single piece at trade pricing for a client?
Yes. Trade pricing starts from a single piece, and a project — a series for one interior, or a standing monthly order — is quoted the same way. Request the trade price list from the trade page.
