Portrait of a White-Bearded Man

Medium: Acrylic/oil, hand-painted on canvas
Subjects: 1
Detail level: Refined
Framed: No

Painted in the nineteenth-century manner: a dark, warm ground, the light brought to the forehead and the bridge of the nose, and everything else allowed to fall away.

The beard is where this kind of portrait is won or lost. Painted as one white mass it kills the face; painted here as warm and cool greys with only a few lit hairs picked out.
