Chestnut Horse at a Gallop

A deliberately high-colour piece: a warm chestnut against a cold blue, with the dust taking the warm note down into the bottom of the canvas.

The drawing of the legs at full extension is the test here — a gallop that is half a beat wrong reads as a horse falling over.
